After a game such as the one witnessed in Match 30 of IPL 2024, almost every stakeholder involved needs a breather from the ruthless power-hitting displayed by every other batter arriving at the crease. It was a game that was one to forget for the bowlers after an unbelievable 549 runs were scored in the totality of the match.

As of now, it seems important for the skipper on the losing side of the clash, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Faf du Plessis to take some time off. With a narrow 25-run loss compared to the scheme of things, Du Plessis’ RCB faced a harrowing fifth loss on the bounce, and RCB’s sixth in the seven games they’ve played. To make things worse, RCB sit in the tenth position, having the most negative-valued Net Run Rate out of all the competing franchises.

While speaking in the post-match interview, the RCB skipper stated that the number of runs scored in the match left him absolutely bewildered. He also admitted that the plans devised during practice sessions and on on-matchday days didn’t bear any fruit.

“It’s crazy the amount of runs scored today, a world record. I wouldn’t say 270 is par. It’s tough (to bowl on a day like this). We tried a few things behind closed doors and they weren’t really working,” Du Plessis said after the match.

Cricket is tough when your confidence is low, there’s no way to hide. The fast bowlers found it quite difficult out there. Similar to the batting perspective, we need to work on a few areas. Need to make sure the run rate doesn’t go down after powerplay. It’s the way the game has evolved.  The guys put up their hands and never gave up (in the run chase). It was good to see there was a bit of a fight in us. 30-40 runs from the bowling perspective was a bit too much,” he added.

The RCB skipper also professed that the entire group needs to regroup by taking some time off, being not involved in the remotest manner in anything related to cricket. He also stated that at such junctures where nothing’s going your way, it’s almost as if your brain might blow up. He also emphasized the need to be up-and-ready whenever the team reunites to prepare for their next game.
