Top 3 performances of Virat Kohli in T20Is

Virat Kohli will celebrate his 37th birthday on November 5, 2025. He was born on this day in 1988 in Delhi. He made his India T20I debut in Harare against Zimbabwe in 2010.

Virat Kohli made 4188 runs at a strike rate of 137.04 in 125 T20Is, including one century and 38 fifties, with the highest score of 122*. He was the Player of the Tournament in two T20 World Cups in 2014 and 2016 and retired from the format after India won the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Here are the top 3 performances of Virat Kohli in T20Is:

3. 82* vs Australia, Mohali, T20 World Cup 2016

India had to defeat Australia in this Super 10 match of the 2016 T20 World Cup to qualify for the semi-finasl. Australia posted 160/6 after winning the toss and batting first, thanks to 43 by Aaron Finch and 31 by Glenn Maxwell. India were in trouble at 94/4 in 14 overs. Virat Kohli single-handedly kept India in the game and got good support from MS Dhoni.

The duo ran hard between the wickets as Kohli managed an odd boundary or two on a sluggish Mohali pitch. While Dhoni made 18* with three fours, Kohli made 82* in 51 balls, with nine fours and two sixes, to take India home by six wickets and into the semi-final.

2. 94* vs West Indies, Hyderabad, 2019

India and the West Indies clashed in the first T20I of the series in Hyderabad, and the Windies posted 207/7 with 56 by Shimron Hetmyer, 40 by Evin Lewis, and 37 by Kieron Pollard. India needed a win to start well, and Rohit Sharma fell for 8 runs.

KL Rahul made 62*, but it was Virat Kohli, who, pumped up by Kesrick Williams’ gesturing and taunts, hammered the Windies bowlers, scoring 90 in 50 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes, in a brutal display of hitting, as India won the game by six wickets, with eight balls to spare.

1. 122* vs Afghanistan, Dubai, 2022

This knock might have come against Afghanistan, but it held a huge importance for Virat Kohli. Kohli had suffered a brutal slump of form from 2019 onwards, as he could not manage a century till this knock in 2022.

It was the 11th match of the 2022 T20 Asia Cup in Dubai as India was put into bat first by Afghanistan. KL Rahul made 62 and added 119 runs with Virat Kohli for the first wicket. But Kohli hammered his only T20I century, scoring 122* in 61 balls with 12 fours and six sixes. He celebrated with a smile on his face as he broke a drought of tons after more than three years. There was relief on his face as he took off his helmet and acknowledged the crowd.

India made 212/2 in 20 overs. Afghanistan was restricted to 111/8, losing the game by 101 runs as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took five wickets for four runs.
