Top 3 performances of David Hussey

Top 3 performances of David Hussey

David Hussey did not play as many games for Australia as his elder brother, Michael Hussey. However, he did have some crucial outings with the bat for the Men in Yellow in white-ball cricket. On that note, let’s a look at three of his best performances for Australia.

3. 61* vs India,

Hussey played a brilliant knock in a rain-curtailed encounter against India in the Commonwealth Bank Series 2012 on February 5 in Melbourne. The right-handed batter smashed an unbeaten 61 off just 30 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes as Australia finished on 216/5 in 32 overs. In reply, the tourists were bowled out for 151 as Australia emerged victorious by 65 runs via the DLS method.

2. 79 vs New Zealand, Adelaide, 2009

Hussey was known for his flamboyant batting, but against New Zealand in the fourth ODI in Adelaide on February 10, 2009, he showed that he could also play according to the situation. In a must-win clash for the Aussies, they lost two wickets at the score of 57 runs inside 15 overs, chasing S245. David scored a magnificent 79 runs off 96 balls, hitting six boundaries to resurrect the Australian innings. After he was dismissed in the 45th over, his elder brother took the home side to victory with six wickets at 10 balls to spare.

1. 88, 2/21 vs South Africa

Hussey showcased his all-round prowess in the first T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg on March 27, 2009. He smashed an unbeaten 88 off 44 balls, belting five fours and six sixes to take Australia to a fighting total of 166/7 in 20 overs. Australia had lost half their side for 71 runs at the halfway stage, but that did not perturb Hussey whatsoever. With the ball, he dismissed Hashim Amla and Vaughn van Jaarsveld to finish with figures of 2/21 in four overs. However, the Proteas reached home with four wickets and as many balls to spare.
