Playing in any cash-rich franchise cricket league like IPL even after the age of 40 is like an achievement for any cricketer in the world. There have been a few cricketers in history who played in IPL in their 40s, the age when most of the cricketers get retired and involved in other activities like commentator or panel expert. 

With that said, here in this listicle, we’ll have a look at the top 3 batters in the history of the Indian Premier League to score the highest runs in their career after the age of 40. The list includes some legendary names who also represented their national teams for a long time.

1. Chris Gayle (Kings XI Punjab, Punjab Kings)

The veteran Caribbean batter Chris Gayle played 17 matches in the Indian Premier League after crossing the age of 40. In the 17 innings of these 17 matches, Gayle scored 481 runs with an average of 30.06, including 3 half-centuries with the willow. 

He is in the top spot of the list of highest run scorers in IPL history after the age of 40. During the time period after entering his 40s, Gayle played for Punjab Kings (formerly known as the Kings XI Punjab). 

2. Rahul Dravid (Rajasthan Royals)

It is quite hard to believe that the former legendary Indian batter Rahul Dravid, who had the tag of Test specialist, is in the second spot on this list of highest run-scorers in IPL after the age of 40. Dravid turned 40 in 2013 when he was in action with Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. 

Dravid appeared in 17 innings of the 18 matches for the Royals; in these matches, he scored 471 runs with an average of 29.43, including 4 half-centuries on his credit. It also included one unbeaten knock to his name in these 17 appearances. 

3. Adam Gilchrist (Kings XI Punjab)

Former Australian wicket keeper-batter Adam Gilchrist played for a year in the Indian Premier League after turning 40 in 2012. He appeared for Kings XI Punjab in 20 innings of the 20 matches; in these matches, he scored 466 runs with an average of 27.41, hitting two half-centuries with the bat. 

He is in the third spot on the list of highest run-scorers in IPL in 40s; he is just 4 runs behind the former Indian skipper and legendary batter Rahul Dravid in this list.
