Predicted Playing XI of Bangladesh in 2nd Test against West Indies

Predicted Playing XI of Bangladesh in 2nd Test against West Indies

Bangladesh will look to bounce back when they face West Indies in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, starting November 5. The hosts trail the two-match series 1-0 after losing the opening Test in Mirpur by eight wickets. Their batting unit will need to show greater resilience after being bowled out for 142 in the second innings, allowing West Indies to chase a target of 170 comfortably.

The biggest selection change is the absence of Mominul Haque, who must observe a mandatory concussion stand-down period. Amite Hasan has been named as his replacement after scoring an unbeaten 201 in the National Cricket League. Mushfiqur Rahim is also back in the squad after missing the first Test with a finger injury, although his fitness and selection remain important considerations.

Here’s Bangladesh’s Predicted XI for 2nd Test:

Top order: Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Amite Hasan

Shadman Islam is expected to retain his place at the top of the order after scoring a century in the first innings of the opening Test. His ability to occupy the crease and build an innings will be crucial as Bangladesh attempt to avoid another batting collapse.

Tanzid Hasan could partner Shadman. The left-hander offers an attacking option at the top and can put pressure on the opposition if he gets settled. However, he will need to balance aggression with patience against West Indies’ pace attack.

Amite Hasan is predicted to bat at No. 3 in place of Mominul. The youngster’s inclusion provides Bangladesh with an opportunity to inject fresh energy into the lineup. His unbeaten double-century in domestic cricket suggests he is in good form, but the step up to international Test cricket will present a significant challenge.

Middle order: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is likely to bat at No. 4. Bangladesh will rely on his experience and ability to anchor the innings, particularly if the top order loses early wickets. Shanto will also need to lead from the front after the team’s disappointing second-innings performance in Mirpur.

Towhid Hridoy is expected to occupy the No. 5 position. His inclusion gives Bangladesh a middle-order batter capable of playing positively against both pace and spin. Hridoy will need to build partnerships and prevent West Indies from taking wickets in clusters.

Litton Das could bat at No. 6 and take the wicketkeeping duties. His availability will be important, as his ability to counterattack can help Bangladesh recover momentum. Litton’s fitness and match readiness will be monitored, but he remains a key part of the squad.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is expected to feature at No. 7. The vice-captain provides valuable batting depth and remains one of Bangladesh’s most important spin-bowling options. He will be expected to contribute with both bat and ball, especially on a surface that may assist spinners as the match progresses.

Nayeem Hasan could follow at No. 8. His off-spin gives Bangladesh another option to attack the West Indies middle order. The hosts will need their spinners to be more effective after West Indies’ slow bowlers dominated the opening Test.

Bowlers: Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam

Taijul Islam is likely to retain his place as Bangladesh’s frontline left-arm spinner. His experience and ability to bowl long spells make him an important part of the attack. Bangladesh will hope he can create more pressure and take wickets during the middle overs.

Hasan Mahmud is predicted to lead the pace attack alongside Shoriful Islam. Hasan’s ability to bowl disciplined lengths and generate movement could be useful with the new ball, while Shoriful offers left-arm variety.

Bangladesh could also consider Taskin Ahmed or Ebadot Hossain, depending on the pitch and the team management’s preference for pace. Both are included in the squad for the second Test.
