Nasser Hussain’s top 5 performances in Test Cricket

Former England skipper Naseer Hussain has been known for his blunt point of view on various cricketing issues. However, the man has also been one of the biggest batters of his time for the three lions. His amazing performances with the bat and some iconic innings have helped England to win some great games.

So, in today’s listicle, we will rank the top 5 Test innings played by Naseer Hussain in his 15-year-long career. 5. 146* vs South Africa (1999)

This has to be Nasser Hussain’s most iconic Test innings. In this knock, Hussain displayed his true batting qualities by batting for more than 160 overs and facing 463 balls. Despite such a long innings Hussain did not look tired or didn’t make a single mistake which helped him to remain unbeaten.

In his innings, he scored unbeaten 146 runs with a strike rate of 31. He smashed 17 boundaries in this innings too. His amazing determination and fighting spirit deserve a place in this list which forced us to include it.

4. 103* vs New Zealand (2004)

This was Naseer Hussain’s last Test innings of his 15-year-long career. Playing against all odds Hussain sailed England to register one of the most iconic victories at the Lord’s. In the fourth innings of the game, England needed 282 runs to win the game.

Hussain stood like a rock and continued his dominant batting performance. In his innings, he scored an unbeaten 103 runs off 204 balls with the help of 15 boundaries. His amazing performance helped England to register a convincing victory against the black caps.

3. 128 vs India (1996)

In the first Test of India’s tour of England in 1996, both teams locked horns at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India had a poor start as they scored just 214 runs in the first innings with Javagal Srinath being the highest run scorer with 52 runs.

In response England put up a show with bat, especially Nasser Hussain as he scored a magnificent century. Facing 227 balls he scored 128 runs with the help of 18 fours and a six with a strike rate of 56.39. His innings helped England to win the game by eight wickets.

2. 155 vs India (2002)

This was the classic Test innings by any English batter to date. With amazing stroke play and some really beautiful defensive shots, Hussain became a nightmare for Indian bowlers in this inning. Batting first England lost a quick wicket which paved the way for Naseer Hussain at number 3.

The man played 331 balls in his innings and scored 155 runs with the help of 25 boundaries. He scored 100 runs through boundaries utilising all the poor deliveries. His defence was something unbelievable for the India bowlers. Hussain’s innings helped England to win the game by 170 runs.

1. 207 vs Australia (1997)

This is the only double hundred of Nasser Hussain’s entire Test Career. England faced Australia in Edgbaston and Hussain came to bat at number 4 after some early setbacks. The Aussies were doing fiery bowling but Hussain had some other plans.

As they say, attack is the best defence and so Hussain did. Hussain batted for 337 balls to make 207 and he hit 38 fours in this innings meaning a total of 152 runs just in fours and he was striking at 61.42. His amazing innings helped England to win the game.
