3 reasons why Australia can win the Champions Trophy 2025

Australia head into ICC Champions Trophy 2025 having lost four key players. Skipper Pat Cummins, pacer Josh Hazlewood, and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh are already out injured. Marcus Stoinis has called time on his ODI career just weeks before the tournament could begin.

Despite all these setbacks, Australia are a dangerous side that the other seven nations will be wary of. Australia have won the tournament twice in 2006 and 2009 under Ricky Ponting. Their recent form has seen them beat India at home and follow it up with a huge series win in Sri Lanka.

Here are the top three reasons why Australia can win the Champions Trophy 2025:

3. Strong batting order

3 reasons why Australia can win the Champions Trophy 2025
Travis Head

Travis Head as an opener is a huge threat to any bowling unit. The left-handed batter scored a century in the ODI World Cup final and since then hasn’t looked back. Steve Smith has come back to his absolute best and can tear the best bowling attack on his day. The likes of Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis can also play attacking cricket and keep the runs flowing.

2. Strong bowling unit

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc will be the pace spearhead but the role of Adam Zampa becomes important for the side. The right-arm leg spinner can run through any batting unit and can pick wickets. Sean Abbott and Spencer Johnson are likely to be drafted into the team and both bowlers are more than capable with the new ball as well as with the old ball in the death overs. Nathan Ellis is another name who has earned a reputation for being a fearsome death bowler.

1. Previous record in ICC Tournaments

Australia Cricket Team

Australia has always been known to be a huge favorite in any ICC tournament. The Aussies have won the ICC World Test Championship and ODI World Cup both in 2023. The Aussies are one of the biggest forces in the ICC tournaments and despite missing some of their star names, the Kangaroos can more than hold their fort. Their performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup showed their ability to rise back from the dead and win the title.
