Sunrisers Hyderabad did not have the best of seasons in Indian Premier League 2023. The Orange Army finished at tenth place with just eight points in 14 matches with four wins and ten losses. SRH were plagued with issues such as not having a set opening batting combination. They were not able to fully optimize players like Harry Brook and Adil Rashid. Their Indian batting did not hold up properly through the IPL.
Brian Lara did not have a good start as full time coach of SRH. Umran Malik was used in the initial games only to be permanently benched later on. Heinrich Klassen and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the only bright spots for the Orange Army over the course of the IPL 2023. SRH las had a shot of winning an IPL title in 2018, but they lost to Chennai Super Kings. Let us take a look at three players that they might release in IPL 2024.
3. Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid was brought by SRH for 2crore INR in the 2023 IPL auction. But because of SRH’s Indian batting misfiring and him being the overseas player, he had to be benched so that they could pack their international batters and had to play Mayank Markande in his place to make up for the wrist spin void. He played two matches and picked up two wickets.
Washington Sundar had an underwhelming IPL 2023 which was later stopped because of injury. Sundar could not shine with bat and ball either. The Tamil Nadu allrounder had very lukewarm returns for his side. He scored 60 runs and just picked up three wickets in seven matches. He could be released by the franchise as he is very injury prone. SRH were banking him to be the middle order batter and someone who can take wickets in the powerplay but sadly it wasn’t to be.
Rahul Tripathi was one of the best players for SRH in IPL 2022. He scored 413 runs in 14 matches at an average of 37.54 and at a strike rate of 158.23. But in IPL 2023, there were stark different numbers for the Maharashtrian. He scored 273 runs in 14 matches at an average of 22.75 and strike rate of 128.16. He only scored one fifty in the season.
