The business end of the Indian Premier League(IPL) has already featured some great performances by the teams. The team that has given a great performance is Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR). The last two seasons for the men in purple have been underwhelming, but this has been the year where the team has started giving some great performances and is at the top two.
KKR will now face Mumbai Indians(MI) at the Wankhede for the first time this season. Even though KKR’s performance in the last 4 games has been a mixed bag they will still be the favourites to win this contest. KKR will also want to win this to improve their terrible head-to-head record against MI. They will be looking to take their best Playing XI in the game.
So, here is the predicted playing XI for Kolkata going into match number 51:
1. Philip Salt(wk)
Philip Salt has been a blessing in disguise for KKR this season and has fit in well with this opening side. He is currently the highest run-getter for his team and will look to continue his good season in this match.
2. Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine has not only had a decent season with the ball but with the bat as well. This has officially made him the best player for KKR this season and there is no stopping him. He will be looking to continue his dominance in the upcoming match.
3. Nitish Rana
Nitish Rana was out for some time due to injury but he will most likely make his return in the upcoming game. With Venkatesh Iyer failing to make much of a difference they might consider him for the game against MI who he has played for in the past.
4. Shreyas Iyer(c)
Shreyas Iyer might not have the most consistent season as skipper, but he will still look to lead from the front and make sure he gets a great result. Iyer will be looking to make a statement since this is also his home ground.
5. Andre Russell
Andre Russell has done a great job this season not only with runs down the order but with some great spells with the ball as well. He is an important player in the KKR setup and will be happy to show his explosive shots at the Wankhede.
6. Rinku Singh
This might not be the same breakthrough season and he has not got enough chances to bat in the middle, but that still doesn’t mean that this hard-hitting southpaw will not be a threat to the bowlers and will be backing himself in the match.
7. Ramandeep Singh
Ramandeep Singh has still impressed us with great cameos in some matches. It will be interesting to see if he goes on to play a bigger innings in the middle as well. He will be looking to perform against his former side as well.
8. Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc might not have the best season so far, where he has gone for runs and has barely taken wickets. KKR is still struggling as the left-arm expressman and we are hopeful that he finally gets back to his best.
9. Vaibhav Arora
The young paceman in the KKR squad has really been exceptional, especially Vaibhav Arora who has been getting some big wickets in the middle. His performance has been something that will make everyone happy.
10. Sakib Hussain
Though there are the likes of Chetan Sakariya in the ranks, to avoid two left-arm pacers in the XI, they will be going for the likes of Sakib Hussain who is one of the young prodigies the franchise is bringing up after some great performances in his first two T20I’s.
11. Varun Chakravarthy
The mystery spinner proved in the last game why he is one of the most effective spin bowlers in the ranks. Chakravarthy after that match-winning performance will be looking to make a difference in this game as well.
Impact: Angkrish Raghuvanshi
The ex-U-19 player has shown glimpses of brilliance already. He has proven himself as a player who can play some crucial innings in the middle order and this is what KKR will want him to do throughout the season.
