Led by former captain Joe Root, the England cricket team lost 16 Tests in a row. The England Cricket Board (ECB) plans to reshuffle the team after Root resigns as captain. And it is as if their luck has opened.
New Test coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes led the England Test team back to winning ways. England’s 3-0 home Test series win over New Zealand signaled the beginning of a new horizon. England wicketkeeper Bairstow has been instrumental in winning the three-match Test series against the Kiwis.
The cricketer has contributed to the team’s victory in all three Tests. In the last two Tests, he seems to have changed the essence of Test batting. After an innings of 136 off 92 balls at Trent Bridge, in Headingley, he scored 162 off 157 balls in the first innings and an unbeaten 71 off 62 balls in the second innings. Bairstow seems to be batting in a new style in the new beginning of England.
Former captain and popular commentator Nasser Hussain called the innings of Bairstow in his home ground Headingley one of the best among English batsmen. He said, “Headingley is the home ground of Bairstow. Hundreds in this field would have been special for him. It would have been great to beat England on this field. His innings are one of the greatest innings I have ever seen. Bairstow is the best batsman in English cricket. He captures the rhythm of “Baz-ball” (Brendon McCullum). He had a lot of positivity.”
Bairstow has made a great start in the year 2022. Despite losing the Ashes, the wicketkeeper-batsman was brilliant with his own willow. Played a century-run innings. He also got to see century-run innings on the Windies tour in March. Then for a long time, there was a run drought in his bat. Now, Bairstow is back on the run again against New Zealand. Bairstow has returned to the run and made the whole series his own.
