Rishabh Pant did not have a good start as a captain. The wicketkeeper-batsman, while leading India, has got a bitter taste of defeat in the first two matches. The Indians were in danger of losing the series by four wickets to South Africa in Cuttack on Sunday. India, already trailing 2-0, will have to win all the last three matches to win the series.

However, no one will be able to make that bet with this Indian team. Captain Pant himself is not getting a run. Another important top-order batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is not able to perform well with the bat. There is no scope to avoid the responsibility of the batsmen’s failure in the match in Cuttack where they failed to cross 150 runs. As a result, the team also lost the match.

At the end of the match, captain Pant said that his team should have scored 10-15 more runs. He feels that even the bowlers have failed to pick up wickets at the end. Pant said, ”We failed to score 10-15 more runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled well but the rest could not help him properly. We should take more wickets in the last 10 overs of the innings of South Africa. We couldn’t do that. ”

At the post-match awards ceremony, the Indian captain added that after losing three wickets in the beginning, they should have increased the pressure. Anyway, there’s nothing he could do but try to play better in the next match. They have to take the challenge of winning the last three matches.

Heinrich Klaasen became the best player of the match who played as a substitute for Quinton de Kock. Klassen remarked that de Kock got on the bus and told him he had a hand injury. That’s when Klaasen realized he was playing. He added, “The pacers were bowling well with the new ball. So, I tried to attack the spinners. I am impressed to win the match again against India. Playing on Indian soil is like a dream for me. I was very pleased to finish the match well.”

Klaasen’s praise was also heard from the South African captain. Temba Bavuma said, ”It was not clear if I could win the match at all. Bhuvneshwar bowled so well in the beginning that the situation became very difficult for us. It would have been difficult to win this match if Klaasen had not played such good innings.”
