If Shakib can return after the ban, Amir can too: Pakistan’s chief selector

নিষেধাজ্ঞা শেষে সাকিব ফিরতে পারলে আমিরও পারবেঃ পাকিস্তানের প্রধান নির্বাচক

Cricketers have been banned from cricket for various reasons at different times. Many have also received bans from cricket for fixing incidents. Many cricketers like Ashraful have ended their careers after being banned from resolving cases. Two Pakistani cricketers, Mohammad Amir and Sharjeel Khan were also banned from cricket for fixing allegations. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was also forbidden to exchange messages with gamblers. However, Pakistan’s chief selector Harun Rashid recently said in an interview that if Shakib returns after the ban, the Amirs can also return to the team.

Mohammad Amir was involved in the spot-fixing scandal at Lord’s Test in 2009. And in that incident, he had to serve jail. He was banned from cricket. Later, he returned to the national team, surprised everyone, and retired very soon. Amir was angry with the team management and the board. Since then, this Pakistani left-arm pacer has been playing in domestic cricket and franchise league. Meanwhile, Sharjeel Khan was also banned for fixing. He received a five-year ban in 2017 with a two-and-a-half-year suspension.

When asked about their return to the Pakistan national team, Pakistan’s chief selector Harun Rashid cited the example of Shakib-Samuels. However, Shakib’s ban is not the same as Amir-Sharjeel’s ban. Harun Rashid said, “Doors are not closed for Pakistan national team for Amir-Sharjeel. If Shakib Al Hasan and Marlon Samuels can return after their bans, so can our players. Those whose sentences have expired will be able to return to the national team.”

However, the chief selector hinted that they must do some work first to return to the national team. He said, “Aamir is an outstanding cricketer in the Pakistan team. And if he still wants to serve Pakistan cricket, then the door of the national team must be open for him. For that, first, he has to withdraw from his retirement decision. This will give us an idea of which cricketers to choose. Who can be given opportunities? “

Notably, Shakib was banned for one year for not disclosing the gambling offer after receiving it. Samuels, on the other hand, was banned for illegal bowling action. Samuels, however, suffered several bans. He was also banned in 2013 for unlawful bowling action. Then in 2015, he was banned from cricket. But it is difficult for Amir to return to the field like Shakib and Samuels.
