BCCI announces India's 15-man squad for ODI World Cup 2023; no place for Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the 15-member squad that will take part in the eagerly-anticipated 2023 ODI World Cup. Notably, the big-ticket event is set to begin on October 5 in India with defending champions England squaring off against New Zealand in the curtain raiser at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) informed all 10 participating teams to finalize their respective squads and submit them to the apex council by September 5. With this, the All India Senior Men’s Selection Committee announced their 15-member squad, who have made the cut for the big-ticket event.

Rohit Sharma will continue leading the setup whereas has Hardik Pandya been named his deputy for the marquee ICC event. Team India’s World Cup squad closely resembles the roster of players currently participating in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 campaign.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer who are free from the clutches of injury will participate in the ODI World Cup following their inclusion in India’s squad for the ACC event. In addition to this, the think tank backed Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami to feature in the setup considering their experience and recent bowling exploits.

Notably, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who was named as the traveling reserve in the Asia Cup squad, failed to make the cut in the 15-member squad for the World Cup.

The Men in Blue’s quest for a historic World Cup victory begins on October 8, as they will go head-to-head against five-time winners Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Furthermore, the high-voltage India-Pakistan fixture will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14 as per the revised schedule by the ICC.
