The Strikers finished last in the previous edition of the BBL. However, they made a strong start to this season, defeating Sydney Sixers in their opening fixture by three wickets, chasing down a 160-run target with three balls to spare.
On the other hand, Melbourne Stars, who were ousted in the knockout fixture last season, started their BBL 2025-26 campaign with a comprehensive win against Hobart Hurricanes. Marcus Stoinis’ men chased down a 159-run target in 16 overs, with eight wickets in hand.
