Prince Yadav‘s outstanding day out was cut short when he was forced to limp off injured before bowling a ball in his second over against Zimbabwe in Harare on Saturday, July 25, during the second T20I. The setback could end his time in Zimbabwe, with the third game of the series scheduled for the day after.

The 24-year-old was enjoying a great game, continuing from his excellent display in the first match of the series. The right-arm pace bowler had taken the wickets of opening batter Ben Curran and captain Sikandar Raza.

However, before he could run through the Zimbabwean batting order, Yadav was seen holding his hamstring after bowling two balls in his second over. India’s physio entered the field, and after examining the injury, the fast bowler was forced off the field in agony.

The setback comes at an extremely wrong time for Yadav ahead of a busy international schedule for Team India. The Men in Blue are poised to face the West Indies in three T20Is and five One Day Internationals (ODIs) on home soil in September before travelling to New Zealand for an all-format tour later this year. These games would have given Yadav a perfect opportunity to nail down a place in the playing XI ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

India have found some form in the shortest format of the game after losing back-to-back series against Ireland and England earlier this month without winning a game in the British Isles. Shreyas Iyer’s side won the first game of the series against Zimbabwe by seven wickets after Yadav took 2 for 19 from his quota of four overs. It happened to be the team’s first win under their new captain after replacing Suryakumar Yadav.
