How did Match 22 of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 go between England Women and West Indies Women?

Hosts England Women became the first side in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup to qualify for the knockout rounds after their 38-run victory over West Indies Women at Lord’s on Wednesday, June 24. The Lionesses have a great chance to now finish at the top of Group B with one game in hand.

The Windies won the toss and put England into bat to make a great start, dismissing Amy Jones in the first over, bowled by Chinelle Henry. The hosts, however, soon took the game away from them, once again thanks to Danni Wyatt-Hodge. The right-handed batter, along with former captain Heather Knight, helped England put 186 runs on the board.

West Indies, in reply, never really got going and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. The visitors were four down inside the first 11 overs with just 69 runs on the board. Henry, however, did provide a flurry of runs towards the end, hitting an unbeaten 51 off 30 balls. Her efforts were too little too late in the end, with England securing yet another comfortable victory in the T20 World Cup.

Best Batting Performance of the Match: Danni Wyatt-Hodge

Danni Wyatt-Hodge has had an excellent tournament, and she continued her breathtaking form against the West Indies by scoring 65 off 42 deliveries, striking at nearly 155. Spending 75 minutes at the crease, the 35-year-old struck eight boundaries to bring up her second score of more than 50, adding to her unbeaten century from the first game against Sri Lanka.

Best Bowling Performance of the Match: Charlie Dean

Stand-in captain Charlie Dean has seven wickets from four matches at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. She carried her excellent form with the ball during the game against the Caribbean outfit to end with figures of 2 for 31 from four overs. She took the important wicket of Deandra Dottin on the last ball of the powerplay and then dismissed Jannillea Glasgow a few overs later.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved

  • England registered their highest total against the West Indies in WT20Is (186).
  • Hayley Matthews: Most wickets for West Indies Women in WT20Is (126*)
  • Second-most drop catches in a WT20 WC innings (England with 6)
  • Most drop catches at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup (England with 15)

Who won the Player of the Match award?

Wyatt-Hodge was declared Player of the Match for her efforts with the bat in the first innings. The opening batter remains one of England’s crucial players with the bat as they look ahead to the semi-finals, particularly with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt still out injured.

When is the next match?

West Indies play their final group match of the tournament on Saturday, June 27, against Ireland at the County Ground in Bristol.

England, meanwhile, end their group phase with a game against New Zealand on Sunday, June 28, at the Oval in South London.
