Returning Australia captain Mitchell Marsh has remained confident of his side’s performances in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. This comes after they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat in the preceding One Day International (ODI) series against the Tigers.

Marsh, however, remains optimistic about his team’s chances ahead of the 20-over series with a host of experienced players returning to the side, including the captain himself. The top-order batter believes that the combination of senior players returning, along with the youngsters already in the team, will make Australia a competitive prospect against Bangladesh.

“No doubt it’s been a tough tour, but we’re going in with high hopes of winning this series and playing some really good cricket. We’ve got some experienced guys coming back, no doubt. We’ve also got fresh faces and some young players who will provide great energy, and we’re looking forward to the challenge of playing against Bangladesh,” Mitchell Marsh said via Cricbuzz.

Marsh is also excited by the prospect of having Tim David back in the side for the series in Bangladesh. The white-ball captain labelled him as one of the world’s best middle-order batters. David returns to international cricket after helping the Royal Challengers Bengaluru win their second consecutive Indian Premier League, where he contributed 305 runs at a strike-rate of 188.27. Such numbers would certainly elevate the Australian outfit ahead of the three-match series.

“Absolutely. I think anytime you welcome, in my opinion, one of the best middle-order players in the world into your team – experienced and really confident in his ability – it’s a huge boost. We welcome him back into our side and he’s really valuable to us. So it’s great to have him back. We’ve got a big changeover in personnel. The guys are really looking forward to this series,” Marsh added.

Skipper Marsh and David are not the only senior players returning to the team ahead of the shorter format series. Aaron Hardie and Spencer Johnson are also back in the squad to strengthen Australia’s fast bowling department.
