Sydney Sixers’ teenage sensation Caoimhe Bray is expected to be sidelined after the re-emergence of a stress fracture in her back. The multi-sports athlete had missed the conclusion of last summer with a stress injury.

Bray will not feature in the Sixers’ WBBL Challenger clash against Perth Scorchers at the North Sydney Oval due to the same reason. The exact timeline of her recovery has not been revealed yet, but it is almost finalised that the cricketer will not take part in the remainder of the season with New South Wales and the Sixers.

Speaking about Bray’s exploits in football and cricket, she has played as a goalkeeper for Young Matildas in 2024. She made her debut for the Sixers a few months later. Bray recently became the youngest player to take a hat-trick in any of the main women’s T20 franchise leagues in November against arch-rivals Sydney Thunder.

Bray had recently spoken on how she manages playing both the sports. She opened up on the amount of suggestions she has got from outsiders to pick up cricket as a long-term profession. However, she said that the future is uncertain and that her current aim is to actively participate in both sports.

“I have to commit myself to cricket for the summer part of the season, and when winter comes around, that’s when soccer comes back. So many people are asking the question: ‘Will you still be playing soccer or cricket’. People have their own opinions, like ‘go into cricket, surely’. I have the three years signed with the Sixers, and so much can change over that period. If you don’t know the future, neither do I. But I am going to try and stick to [doing both] as much as I can,” she had said in November, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Bray has picked up eight wickets in as many innings in the current WBBL season while maintaining an impressive economy rate of 6.96. Sydney Sixers are set to take on Perth at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney on Thursday, December 11. The winner of the contest will take on Hobart Hurricanes in the summit clash on December 13.
