WBBL 2023: Sydney Sixers appoint Rachel Haynes as their new Head

There have been some exemplary legends in Women’s cricket who continue to make a positive impact despite having retired from the game. Having said that Australia are one dominant force who have enjoyed the services of some legendary players who continue to work behind the scenes to strengthen the domestic circuit of Australian cricket. One such legend is none other than the five-time world champion, Rachel Haynes.

Interestingly enough, as per the latest development, the legend will be working in an off-the-field role. Notably, Haynes has been announced as the Head of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) franchise, Sydney Sixers. As a result, the Aussie will now manage the operations of the franchise in the Weber WBBL and the KFC BBL, respectively. Furthermore, Rachel Haynes will play a major role in terms of production on the match day along with engaging with the concerned stakeholders and the community. Moreover, she will also oversee the recruitment operations as well.

Speaking of the legendary figure, Haynes has represented the Sydney Sixers in 99 games along with the recent season of the WBBL which turned out to be the last event in her illustrious career. Notably, Rachel Haynes had called time on her magnificent career in international cricket in September, last year. The 36-year-old featured in 167 games for Australia Women. Meanwhile, reflecting on her new roles, Haynes said that she will strive to provide the best fan experience to the whole community along with nurturing the budding players.

“Since retiring as a player last November I have had time to reflect on my career, but just as importantly, plan for the future, and when this role with the Sydney Sixers came along, I just felt like it was a great fit,” Haynes was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

“I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the role and driving the club forward to provide our members and fans with the best experience possible,” she further continued.

Besides Rachel Haynes also expressed her delight in working with some of the legends of the game as well as playing with them which only increased her experiences of understanding the game and other dynamics around it from close quarters. Hence, Haynes believes that managing the team and the community together should be a smooth transition for her.

“Cricket has obviously been a massive part of my life and I feel like I have learnt a lot along the way, through my studies and as a player, in what drives a successful team and a successful club. The Sixers are the most revered club in the league, having played in 11 of the 20 finals held in BBL and WBBL history. We have some of cricket’s most recognisable faces and play at iconic grounds like North Sydney Oval and the Sydney Cricket Ground. ,” the 36-year-old concluded.
