AB de Villiers took cricket enthusiasts on a nostalgia trip with his brilliant fielding effort during match No. 6 of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 at County Ground, Northampton, on Tuesday, July 22.
India Champions locked horns against South Africa Champions in what promised to be a mouth-watering clash. However, in the end, it turned out to be a one-sided affair as South Africa won by 88 runs (via DLS method). Skipper de Villiers led his side from the front, first with the bat and then in the field.
Talking about his scintillating fielding display, it came in the first ball of the eighth over of the second innings. Yusuf Pathan launched Imran Tahir towards the right of long-on. It seemed that the Indian all-rounder had found the gap to hit a flat six.
However, de Villiers covered a lot of ground to his right and put in a slide to catch the ball. However, he realised that the momentum would take him over the ropes, and he decided to toss the ball in the air to allow Sarel Erwee to complete the catch by diving forward after running towards him from deep mid-wicket.
Earlier in the match, de Villiers slammed the Indian bowlers to all corners of the park en route an unbeaten 63 off 30 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes. His innings helped South Africa post a massive score of 208/6. In reply, India finished on 111/9 in 18.2 overs before the game stopped due to floodlight issue.
