Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Tushar Deshpande conceded the most number of runs in a single season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with 564 runs leaked in the 16th edition of the competition. Notably, the pacer was hammered for 56 runs in his four overs during the IPL 2023 final between CSK and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, May 29.

In doing so, Tushar overtook Prasidh Krishna’s record, who leaked 551 runs in the 2022 season at an average economy of 8.28 in the lucrative T20 league. Notably, in 16 appearances, the CSK pacer recorded a dismal average economy of 9.92, despite getting 21 scalps in IPL 2023.

Legendary CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who is the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL, recorded his worst outing with the ball in the 2018 season as he gave 533 runs. With this, Bravo stands fifth in the unceremonious tally and has the worst average economy among the players on the list with 9.96.

Gujarat post a humongous total in IPL Final

Speaking about the finals, the defending champions posted a humongous first innings total of 214 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. In doing so, the Titans recorded the highest score in a final in the history of the IPL.

Sai Sudharsan’s stunning 47-ball 96 which featured six sixes and eight fours at a stunning strike rate of 204.25, coupled with Wriddhiman Saha’s 54 off 39 balls kept GT in the driver’s seat. Furthermore, invaluable knocks by Shubman Gill (39 off 20) and skipper Hardik Pandya (21* off 12) helped the Titans to post a competitive total.

The previous record of the highest total in an IPL final was held by Sunrisers Hyderabad when they clobbered 208 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 season. It remains to be seen if Gujarat can add a second title on the trot or will MS Dhoni’s Super Kings clinch a record-equalling fifth title.
