India’s World Cup-winning Smriti Mandhana‘s father Shrinivas Mandhana was discharged on Monday morning after he was admitted on November 23 (Sunday) in Sangli on the very day Smriti and musician-filmmaker Palash Muchhal were to get married.
As per an India TV report, Shrinivas is completely stable and is out of danger as no blockages was detected by doctors when angiography was conducted as part of the evaluaiton.
The wedding was postponed indefinitely after the sudden medical emergency arose in the Mandhana family. Earlier, Smriti’s manager Tuhin Mishra had confirmed that Shrinivas’ health deteriorated while having breakfast.
“Today in the morning, when Smriti’s father was having breakfast, his health deteriorated. We waited for a bit, thinking he would get fine. But when it deteriorated further, we called for an ambulance and took him to the hospital, and he is under observation,” shared Mishra, as quoted by Times of India.
For the uninitiated, Smriti’s groom-to-be Palash was also brought to a Mumbai hospital shortly after Shrinivas was hospitalised. Palash reportedly caught a viral infection and suffered severe acidity due to the buildup of stress. His condition improved significantly shortly after and he was subsequently discharged. Smriti is believed to have called off the wedding ceremony owing to her father’s hospitalisation and medical condition.
Speaking of Smriti’s recent exploits on the field, she was the second-leading run-getter in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. She registered 434 runs in nine innings at a strike rate and average of 99.08 and 54.25, respectively. She scored two fifties and one century in the tournament. She was recently retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the mega auction for the 2026 Women’s Premier League.
