On December 06, 2019, former India captain Virat Kohli played one of his finest knocks in international cricket as he unleashed his wrath on the West Indies in the first T20I at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Kohli walked in to bat with India on 30/1 after 3.2 overs chasing 208 but he struggled to find timing scoring just 20 off his first 20 balls.

The chase master got his innings going by smashing a six and a boundary on back-to-back deliveries against Jason Holder in the 12th over. However, it was the incident in the 13th over that had awakened the sleeping beast in Kohli. Notably, West Indies seamer Kesrick Williams gave a stare to the then-Indian captain as he let one ball go down the leg side for a wide and the Indian captain asked him to get back to his bowling mark.

Kohli completed his fifty with a majestic lofted straight drive against Jason Holder reaching the milestone in 35 balls. However, the real action for the crowd was waiting in the 16th over as Kohli flicked Williams for an effortless six over deep mid-wicket and mimicked his notebook tick celebration.

The West Indies seamer leaked 23 runs in his third over and got further whacked by Kohli for 16 runs in the penultimate over as he took India home with eight balls to spare. Kohli remained unbeaten on 94* (50) smashing six fours and as many sixes in his innings and helped India chase down their second-highest target in T20I history.

Kohli was deservedly awarded Player of the Match and his innings is touted as one of the greatest knocks of his career. Despite struggling at the early stages of the innings, he ended up taking India over the line and stamped his authority as the greatest chaser of the modern era.
