The spotlight shone on Shaheen Shah Afridi, who claimed three crucial wickets. Among his notable feats, Afridi’s dismissal of Mahmudullah drew parallels to the legendary Pakistan great, Wasim Akram, who executed a similar delivery during the 1992 World Cup, igniting nostalgia among cricket enthusiasts.

In the 31st over, Shaheen’s fourth delivery was delivered at a good length, tempting Mahmudullah to play it to the on-side, but his closed bat face resulted in the ball eluding the outside edge. To his chagrin, the ball went on to crash into the middle and off stumps. It was an exquisite delivery that even left the commentators in sheer admiration.

In a reminiscent moment from the 1992 World Cup final between Pakistan and England, the iconic Wasim Akram delivered a match-winning spell. Like young Pakistan speedster’s recent feat, Akram too secured three crucial wickets, delivering a similar masterclass. Bowling from around the wicket, Akram’s ball angled in, pitching around the middle and off, dipped enticingly before swinging away late, eluding the outside edge and sending the off-stump cartwheeling.

Shaheen’s brilliance extended beyond his remarkable dismissal of Mahmudullah. He went on a rampage, claiming the scalps of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan earlier. His impressive figures of three wickets for a mere 23 runs, featuring a maiden over, showcased his dominance.

The 23-year-old found strong support from his bowling comrades. Haris Rauf claimed two wickets, Mohammad Wasim Jr. secured three, while Usama Mir and Iftikhar Ahmed also made valuable contributions.
