Over the years, cricket has witnessed some of the greats of the game plundering runs across eras. One thing common among these great batters is their likeliness towards a particular bat. Every player has a special bat that has the perfect shape, size and weight which allows players to bat with utmost ease and helps thems score freely.

Recently, star Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne dived deep into the process of making a perfect bat as he asked a manufacturer which part of the tree makes the best bat. The expert explained that there are around four rounds in a ‘Willow’ tree out of which the bat maker chooses the best one.

“I’ve spent a little bit of time in the UK with one of their felling crews, the people that are cutting down the trees. They tend to say that the best rounds, rounds meaning the section of the tree. So you traditionally get four rounds out of each three, give or take the size obviously there can be some variation there,” said a manufacturing expert on the video shared by Labuschagne on X.

He further stated that the middle part of the tree is the best as it doesn’t have any roots or branches.

“Traditionally the middle two are going to be the best, there’s no root system leading in and the branch at the top. There’s more chances of their being branches up high and the root system down low. Generally, so the middle of the tree will be the best,” he added.

Marnus Labuschagne not picked in Australia’s preliminary World Cup squad

Meanwhile, Labuschagne has been omitted from Australia’s preliminary squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. The 29-year-old hasn’t been picked in the squads for the upcoming five-match series against South Africa and three-match series against India ahead of the mega event.

While Labuschagne has been having a dream run in the Tests, his ODI numbers haven’t been the best as he’s averaging 24.93 with the bat since 2022. George Bailey, Chief Selector of Cricket Australia also mentioned the reason behind Labuschagne’s absence to be his dismal run in the 50-over format.
