IPL 2024: SRH opt out of pre-final practice, while KKR gear up for intense three-hour session in Chennai

After 73 thrilling matches over two months, IPL 2024 has reached its grand finale. On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, vying for the prestigious title.

Kolkata topped the points table with nine wins in 14 matches. They then beat Sunrisers in Qualifier One at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, securing their fourth IPL final. With Gautam Gambhir back as a mentor, KKR aim for their third title, having previously won in 2012 and 2014 under Gambhir’s captaincy. Gambhir’s return has rejuvenated the team after two disappointing seasons where they finished seventh.

Sunrisers, securing the second spot with eight victories and five defeats, staged an impressive comeback following their loss to KKR in the initial playoff. Their remarkable bowling prowess, particularly from the spinners, played a pivotal role as they triumphed over Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs in Chennai, securing their berth in the final. This achievement marks their third IPL final appearance, having clinched the title in 2016 under David Warner’s leadership. Their most recent final appearance was in 2018 when they suffered a defeat against Chennai Super Kings.

Ahead of the final, Sunrisers cancelled their practice session to rest amid Chennai’s humidity. KKR, however, opted for rigorous practice sessions. They played only one match in the last two weeks due to rain-affected games, giving them limited game time before the playoffs.

This season, KKR and SRH have met twice. KKR narrowly won their campaign opener against SRH at Eden Gardens by just four runs. Sunday’s final promises to be an intense battle between two top teams.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the showdown, hoping for an exciting conclusion to IPL 2024. As both teams gear up, the cricketing world watches in anticipation. Will KKR add another trophy to their cabinet, or will SRH clinch their second title? All eyes are on Chennai for what promises to be a thrilling finale.
