In the night game of the second and final Saturday doubleheader of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be hosting Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Lucknow. RR currently lead the points table, while LSG are in fourth place, boosted by their season double over CSK.

Having faced each other earlier in the season in Jaipur, where RR emerged victorious, LSG will be eager to settle the score and extend their winning streak to three matches. RR, on the other hand, will aim to secure their fourth consecutive win, having lost only one out of their eight matches so far. Their recent victory against Mumbai Indians showcased their strength, with Sandeep Sharma’s impressive bowling and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century leading them to an easy chase of 180.

Although LSG managed to secure a season double over CSK, it was not without its challenges. After conceding 210 runs to CSK, they found themselves in a tough spot until Marcus Stoinis’ century helped the side achieve the highest successful chase in IPL history at Chennai.

The first match between these two teams in IPL 2024 took place in Jaipur, where RR secured a clinical victory after fifties from Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag propelled them to 193, with LSG falling short by 20 runs in their chase.

LSG vs RR Strategies & Match-ups

Each of the last two matches played at this stadium have been won by the chasing team. This should give some indication that chasing has become easier than before at this ground in lieu with the recent trend this year. Both teams will be aware of this fact and try to use it to their advantage. The important match-ups for this match are Trent Boult vs KL Rahul, Avesh Khan vs Marcus Stoinis, R Ashwin vs Nicholas Pooran, Yuzvendra Chahal vs Marcus Stoinis, Yash Thakur vs Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohsin Khan vs Jos Buttler, Ravi Bishnoi vs Sanju Samson, respectively.

Player Battles to Watch Out For

It would be a very obvious move on RR’s part to try and counter the dangerous and in-form Marcus Stoinis with the highest wicket-taker of all time in IPL history, and it would not be a wrong move, as Chahal has dismissed Stoinis once in 27 balls. Stoinis has scored 35 runs off these deliveries at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 125.92.

RR skipper Sanju Samson has scored 60 runs in 40 balls with a strike rate of 150 against the leggie without being dismissed. This will be a very crucial contest against Ravi Bishnoi, especially in the middle overs where Samson’s skills against spin will be needed on a spin-friendly pitch.

X-Factors for LSG vs RR

Lucknow Super Giants

Marcus Stoinis was the man responsible for LSG’s last win, and he will be gunning to go today as well. His newfound form at No. 3 will be key to LSG’s chances in this match.

Rajasthan Royals

Jos Buttler will be delighted with his newfound form in the last few matches, as he has already scored two centuries this season and will want to sustain that momentum in this match.
