Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals found themselves back in the spotlight after their cheeky dig at some media reports involving KL Rahul and his future at the franchise. The franchise’s latest interaction with the Indian batter comes amid reports surrounding his alleged altercation with head coach Hemang Badani during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
The reported incident had sparked speculation over Rahul’s future with the franchise, with some reports suggesting that Delhi Capitals could part ways with the batter ahead of IPL 2027. However, those rumours were subsequently played down after co-owner Parth Jindal publicly backed Rahul.
Against that backdrop, DC’s official Instagram account left a comment on one of Rahul’s recent posts, writing ‘Kisi pe phekna mat 🤣 (Don’t throw it)’, which appeared to be a reference to the earlier coffee-throwing reports.

The recent reports had alleged that Rahul and Badani were involved in a heated altercation, with the India batter reportedly throwing coffee at the head coach. The incident also led to speculation that Rahul could be traded or leave the franchise ahead of the 2027 season.
However, Jindal subsequently backed Rahul and appeared to put those rumours to rest. The latest social media interaction from DC has now brought the episode back into focus, with the franchise’s comment quickly drawing attention from cricket fans.
KL Rahul’s impressive IPL 2026 campaign
The controversy came despite Rahul enjoying a highly productive season with the bat. Retained by Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore ahead of IPL 2026 after being acquired at the IPL 2025 mega auction, Rahul finished the season as the franchise’s leading run-scorer.
The right-handed batter scored 593 runs in 14 matches at an average of 45.61 and a strike rate of 174.41. His campaign included one century and five fifties, making him one of the standout performers in an otherwise disappointing season for the franchise.
Delhi Capitals, however, failed to qualify for the playoffs. Led by Axar Patel, they finished sixth in the points table with seven wins and seven defeats from 14 matches, collecting 14 points.
Badani served as the team’s head coach in both IPL 2025 and IPL 2026.
