IPL 2026: MI vs CSK, Match 33 – Top player battles to watch out for

Mumbai Indians (MI) lock horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 33 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23.

Both teams head into this clash on the back of inconsistent runs this season. MI have endured a tough start, managing just two wins from their first six matches. Despite registering a dominant 99-run victory over Gujarat Titans in their previous outing, the five-time champions have struggled for stability, particularly at the top of the order due to Rohit Sharma’s injury.

CSK, on the other hand, find themselves in a similar position, with only two wins in six games. The Men in Yellow have been hit by injry setbacks, including the absence of their leading run-scorer Ayush Mhatre due to a hamstring injury, while veteran MS Dhoni is still recovering from a calf strain. 

With the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma in their ranks, MI possess the firepower to dominate, especially at home. However, CSK’s bowlers, particularly in the death overs, will look to exploit MI’s inconsistencies.

3. Noor Ahmad vs Tilak Varma

2. Dewald Brevis vs AM Ghazanfar

In a yet another battle of the middle-overs, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis will face AM Ghazanfar challenge from MI. The Afghanistan spinner has been a revelation for the Hardik Pandya side this year, picking up six wickets in IPL 2026. 

On the other hand, Dewald Brevis is yet to make a mark this year and is struggling for consistency. But, on a flat Wankhede track, no one can be as deadly as him. An all-Indian blockbuster clash between two IPL greats pits Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah against each other. The MI pacer finally got a wicket in IPL 2026 against Gujarat Titans after going wicketless for five games. Samson, on other hand, despite scoring an epic century, is struggling for consistency. 

The duo has faced each other 13 times in T20 cricket, with the Kerala batter managing to score 64 runs in 61 balls against Bumrah. The pacer also has dismissed him twice, which clearly indicates his dominance over Samson.
