‘Let the bat do the talking’ – Yuvraj Singh lauds mentee Abhishek Sharma after record-breaking ton in 3rd T20I

Abhishek Sharma produced one of the most remarkable innings in T20 international cricket during the 3rd T20I between India and Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on September 17, 2026. He reached his century off just 30 balls, becoming the fastest batter from an ICC Full-Member nation to achieve the feat in T20I cricket.

Yuvraj Singh took to X to congratulate his mentee, Abhishek, after the swashbuckling innings and advised him not to pay heed to the naysayers and let his bat do the talking.

“Many congratulations sir Abhishek on the fastest 100 in T20 cricket! I had no doubt that with your talent and hard work, you would achieve this one day,” Yuvraj added. He then followed with a second message: “Once a great man said, ‘When people throw stones at you, turn them into milestones. Let the bat do the talking’, and that’s exactly what you’re doing,” Yuvraj said on X.

Abhishek’s innings of 108 off 34 balls included 9 fours and 11 sixes. He reached his fifty off 16 balls and then required only 14 more balls to bring up three figures. He was dismissed in the 10th over with India’s score at 142 for 1, having contributed just over 76 per cent of his team’s total at that point. Opening partner Sanju Samson scored 34 off 25 balls at the other end.

The previous Full-Member benchmark of 33 balls was jointly held by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, who set it against Gambia on October 23, 2024, and New Zealand’s Finn Allen, who matched it against South Africa at the 2026 T20 World Cup on March 4, 2026. Abhishek’s effort was three balls quicker than that shared mark. His 30-ball hundred is also the fastest T20I century by an Indian batter, going past Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball effort against Sri Lanka in 2017.

This was Abhishek’s third T20I hundred. Among Indian batters, only Rohit Sharma with five centuries and Suryakumar Yadav with four have scored more T20I hundreds than him. The innings came in the third match of the series between India and Afghanistan, played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
