Recently, the current runners-up of the IPL, Gujarat Titans, faced off against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians, a franchise captained by Hardik Pandya, who led Gujarat in the last two IPL seasons. During the match, much of the focus was on speculations about Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya rather than the unfolding game on the ground. Fans vocally expressed their support for Rohit while booing Hardik harshly throughout the match.

The fixture was held at the picturesque Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, however, the pictures from the crowd that emerged during the game weren’t delightful.

An incident captured on camera showed two groups of fans fighting in the stands, seemingly divided between supporters of Mumbai and Gujarat. One user posted the video on ‘X’, which quickly went viral all over social media.

Coming to the match, Hardik’s men suffered a loss to the Shubman Gill-led side at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite the impressive performances of Sharma (43 off 29) and Dewald Brevis (46 off 38), Pandya’s debut as captain didn’t go as planned, as he was outdone by the new captain of his previous franchise. Gujarat won the game by six runs in a last-over thriller and got themselves going in the season opener itself.

This is one stadium where you can enjoy and feel the atmosphere quite lively: Pandya

After the match, Hardik Pandya, the losing captain, expressed that while they had confidence in the chase, they fell short due to a loss of momentum. He mentioned the vibrant atmosphere of the stadium and emphasized the support for his team as there are still 13 games left in the season.

“Obviously we backed ourselves to chase those 42 runs, but it was one of those days when we see the score quite less compared to what it could have been in five overs, I think we lost little bit of momentum there. It feels good to be back because this is one stadium where you can enjoy and feel the atmosphere quite lively, and obviously the crowd was full, and they got a good game as well. (On Tilak not taking the single vs Rashid) I think Tilak felt that that was a better idea at that point of time, I completely back him, not an issue, 13 games to go,” Pandya said after the match.
