With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 just around the corner, cricket enthusiasts are gearing up for the much-anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, which is scheduled for June 9 at the Nassau County Stadium.

Chris Tetley, the head of ICC events, highlighted the significance of the venue, drawing comparisons to India’s renowned Wankhede Stadium. He emphasized the stature of Nassau County Stadium, suggesting that it is comparable to Wankhede in terms of size and world-class quality.

“Whenever a new stadium comes up, there are a lot of questions about the size. But the Nassau County ground is not a token-sized ground – it is 75 yards east west and 67 yards north south from the centre. It is similar to the size of Wankhede. The drainage facilities, too, will be world-class,” he said at an event.

The stadium, once a municipal park, has undergone a transformation into a state-of-the-art cricketing arena, featuring six practice pitches and four center wickets. Damian Hough, head curator of Adelaide Oval, supervised the pitch preparation to guarantee ideal playing conditions. He promises fans an exciting competition, with pitches crafted to provide pace, bounce, and favorable conditions for batters.

“The pitches will have pace and bounce and the ball should come on to the bat, something that the players prefer. The idea is to produce good pitches that will stay good throughout the tournament and the players will enjoy playing on,” he said.
