In the fifth week of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), eight games were played and some out-of-form Indian players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rajat Patidar regained their form and made it to the list of top-performing players of the week. Contrary to both players, some in-form Indian names put up a flop show and disappointed their sides and supporters.

With the ongoing cricketing action in IPL, Team India fans are tracking the performances of their players in the league as right after this marquee tournament, the 2024 T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and eyes will be set on the Rohit Sharma-led side who will look to lift the coveted trophy after 2007. As IPL enters its sixth week, let’s have a look at Indian players who struggled to deliver decent numbers to their sides.

Here is the flop India XI of the fifth week:

1. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma failed to deliver a quality start to Mumbai Indians (MI) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The veteran failed to tackle star RR paceman Trent Boult for the second time in the competition and returned to the pavilion in the first over of the game, after racking up only six off five with a four.

2. Ishan Kishan (WK)

Along with the veteran Rohit, Ishan Kishan also could not be impactful against RR in Jaipur. After his opening partner’s departure, the wicket-keeper batter got dismissed on a duck in the next over after facing only three deliveries.

3. Angkrish Raghuvanshi

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their only game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Eden Gardens by one run and gained two more points. However, on Kolkata’s batting-friendly pitch, Angkrish Raghuvanshi failed to showcase his mettle as he could score only three while batting at number three.

4. Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal got a chance in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) playing XI against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. While chasing a huge score of 211, LSG lost their openers early and Padikkal’s responsibility was to support Marcus Stoinis, who was in excellent touch with his bat. However, the left-hander failed to hold his nerves and went back to the pavilion after accumulating only 13 off 19 as Matheesha Pathirana cleaned him up.

5. Hardik Pandya (C)

MI skipper Hardik Pandya looked miserable with both bat and ball against the Royals in Jaipur. With the bat, he came at number seven and scored only 10 while as a bowler, the veteran gave away 21 runs in his two overs at an expensive economy of 10.50 and got no wickets.

6. Shahrukh Khan

Gujarat Titans (GT) stalwart Shahrukh Khan put up a dismal show with his bat against PBKS and Delhi Capitals (DC). Against Punjab in Mohali, he was sent to bat at number seven but Harshal Patel got the better of him and showed him the way to the pavilion. The right-handed batter returned to the dugout after hitting only eight runs off four deliveries.

In his next contest against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, he was required to stand at the crease and support David Miller to help his side go close to the target of 225. However, Shahrukh again disappointed GT supporters with his eight-run innings off just five balls.

7. Mahipal Lomror

Mahipal Lomror’s job is to play the role of a finisher for RCB in the tournament but he could not live up to the expectations in his team’s crucial games against KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). At the distinguished Eden Gardens, Bengaluru fell one run short against Kolkata and failed to chase down an enormous target of 223 runs. Lomror, who went into the middle at number seven, got stunned by Sunil Narine and went back to the dugout after scoring only four off three.

The 24-year-old continued his poor run with his bat against SRH at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. This time, he walked out to bat at number six and could amass only seven runs from his bat after facing four balls.

8. Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur was ineffective with the ball against the KL Rahul-led Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. As an impact player, the speedster bowled a costly and wicketless spell as he gave away 42 runs in his three overs at a horrendous economy of 14.00.

9. Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel Ahmed failed to get any wickets against SRH and GT in the fifth week. In both games, the pacer looked completely out of rhythm and saw himself at the receiving end. Against the Orange Army at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, he splurged 51 runs in his three overs at a terrible economy of 17.00. Talking about his bowling display against the Titans, the 26-year-old bowled two overs and leaked 26 runs.

10. Tushar Deshpande

Tushar Deshpande struggled to be among the wickets against CSK in Lucknow and Chennai. Bowling four overs in Lucknow, he lacked discipline and conceded 42 runs without picking up any batters. His failure continued against the Yellow Army in Chennai as he went wicketless again. In his three-over spell, batters plundered 34 runs at an economy of 11.33.

11. Suyash Sharma

Suyash Sharma failed to provide support to his colleagues Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy against RCB at the Eden Gardens. The 20-year-old splurged 33 runs in his two overs and failed to inflict any damage on Faf du Plessis and his men.
