Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in the first Test at Marrara Stadium in Darwin from August 13-16, 2026, marking the visitors’ first Test win in Australia in only their third attempt. Cameron Green scored 104 runs off 201 balls in Australia’s second innings, notching his third Test century. Green was bowled by Hasan Mahmud, who took nine wickets in the match.

The century ended Green’s drought of Test hundreds at home in 33 innings since making his debut against India in December 2020. The batter had struggled to convert starts into significant scores on home soil, but a return to his natural approach proved decisive in Darwin. Green explained the shift in mindset that helped him rediscover form ahead of the second and final Test against Bangladesh, scheduled for August 22-26 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

“I went back to how I used to play, keeping it really simple. Over the last few years I have tinkered a bit and tried to find something and force it a little bit,” Green told reporters ahead of the second Test.

How Green returned to his natural batting style

The batter drew clarity from a Sheffield Shield innings in March when he struck a majestic 136 for Western Australia. That domestic performance reinforced what worked for him at the highest level. The experience reminded Green of the value of playing to his own strengths rather than attempting to replicate the methods of teammates with different batting styles and approaches.

“It was nice to go back to (Sheffield) Shield cricket for a game and I went back to what I used to do. It felt really good and I have just continued that on,” Green mentioned.

Why Green plays differently from his teammates

Green stated that Travis Head is someone who can go after the bowlers from ball one but a similar approach didn’t work for him.

“Obviously Travis Head is an unbelievable cricketer, and he seems to be a guy that can hit shots from ball one. That’s never really been me,” Green said.
