The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a significant 31-run win against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Travis Head, the Australian opener for SRH, emerged as a pivotal figure in the match with his exceptional batting performance. Head expressed satisfaction with his batting performance during the post-match presentation, highlighting the exceptional job done by the batting team in the last two games and feeling good about contributing

“Feeling good, the batting team has done an exceptional job in the last two games, feels good to contribute. It was very enjoyable tonight. We were aggressive in the first game as well, that is one thing we want to do at the top. I am pleased I could target both the off-side and leg-side. Earlier, I would just target the leg side. It is a great blueprint for us moving forward. I was pleased with how things worked out in the powerplay. They (MI) got so much power and experience as well. With 280-odd, I felt we had enough,” Head said.

The match witnessed an electrifying display of batting firepower from both sides. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Mayank Agarwal, SRH rallied strongly with fiery knocks from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The duo’s explosive partnership set the stage for a daunting total, propelling SRH to 277/3 in their allotted 20 overs, the highest-ever IPL team total.

MI, in response, displayed resilience with a commendable chase led by openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, followed by a spirited effort from Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma. However, SRH’s bowlers, led by skipper Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat, managed to maintain control over MI’s innings, restricting them to 246/5 in 20 overs.

Despite MI’s valiant effort, it was ultimately SRH who emerged victorious, with Abhishek Sharma rightfully earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his stellar performance.

The domestic season gives us a lot of confidence: Abhishek Sharma

Sharma, Player of the Match, credited confidence from the domestic season and emphasized batting freedom. He enjoyed batting with Head, sought advice from Brian Lara, and expressed commitment to improving his bowling through practice.

“I said in the previous interview too, the domestic season gives us a lot of confidence. The message for the batters is simple – go out and express yourself. The plan was to attack, I enjoyed batting with Head, he’s one of my favourite batters, I admire him. He told me to go for it if it was in my zone. I’m happy to be getting my chances, doesn’t matter what position I’m playing. I had a chance to talk to Brian Lara last night, that helped me massively. I would rather bowl more in practice than bat, trying my best with bowling as well,” Sharma said in the post-match presentation.
