Ace India Women’s batter Jemimah Rodrigues has opened up on the touching message sent by Annabel Sutherland, the all-rounder, after the semi-final clash between India and Australia during the Women’s World Cup 2025. Jemimah had starred with an unbeaten 134-ball 127 in a fabulous display with the bat to guide her side to a record run-chase and producing one of the most memorable wins in World Cup history.
The Mumbai-born revealed how the all-rounder and her Delhi Capitals’ teammate Sutherland commended the former’s performance with the bat on text, and also admitted that it was her occasion to savour. Both of them were recently retained by DC ahead of WPL 2026’s mega auction. Jemimah conceded how she admired Sutherland’s benevolent personality and said that she was overjoyed to represent DC alongside.
“After the game, it was heartbreaking for them to lose a semi-final. I know how much it means to Bellsy and how much she loves her cricket, even though she doesn’t always show it. She messaged me saying, ‘The character you’ve shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight.” stated Jemimah in a post on DC’s Instagram account.
“I looked at that message and thought, what a person! They had just suffered the most heartbreaking loss, yet she still reached out to a friend to encourage me, even though we were opponents at that moment. I have mad respect for her. She’s going to do special things for Australia, which is scary for us, but also for DC. I’m so glad we’ll share the dressing room again,” she added.
