‘BCCI did injustice to him’ – Justin Langer makes startling remark on Virat Kohli’s captaincy stint during crucial WTC Final

Former Australia coach Justin Langer lauded flamboyant India batter Virat Kohli’s aggression on the field and further voiced that the BCCI did injustice to the former skipper by not allowing him to stay as captain in the ODI format.

Notably, his comments came during the ongoing crucial World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 Final between India and Australia. Langer, who is part of the commentary panel, lavished massive praise on Kohli’s passion for the sport. He further slammed the BCCI for not allowing him to keep the captaincy in the ODI format.

“Loved his (Virat Kohli) aggression. BCCI did injustice to him, and I do not want to hear anything else. If he wanted to keep the ODI captaincy, he should have been allowed to do that out of respect,” Langer told while commentating during the WTC Final.

“There was nothing I didn’t like about Virat Kohli. His aggression, his passion, his batting. He was an amazing captain,” he added.

For the uninitiated, Kohli was removed from the ODI captaincy abruptly in December 2021, as Rohit Sharma was assigned the leadership with the BCCI undergoing revamp in the setup. In the 50-over format, as a captain, Kohli has an exceptional win percentage of 70.43 which featured 65 wins in 95 matches.

Team India eye WTC title

Team India locked horns with the Aussies at The Oval in London on June 7 in a One-off decider for the coveted mace. Notably, the side lost their first chance in the 2019-21 cycle under the leadership of Kohli against New Zealand.

With Rohit Sharma’s first stint as skipper in the finals of the WTC, team India will be eager to put an end to their decade-long trophy drought in the ICC events. On the other hand, Pat Cummins’ Australia will be keen to win the prestigious mace in their maiden summit clash before turning their attention to the eagerly-anticipated Ashes against arch-rivals England, scheduled to kickstart on Friday, June 16.
