India captain Suryakumar Yadav made a noble gesture after his team clinched the Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan in Dubai on September 28, as he announced to donate his tournament match fees to the Armed Forces and the families of the Pahalgam terror attack victims. Notably, India emerged victorious by five wickets and two balls to spare in what was a thrilling summit clash.

The match concluded on September 29 at around 12:02 am (IST). Suryakumar’s tweet in relation to donating channeling his fees to the Armed Forces and the victims of the attack came late in the night at 2:53 am (IST).

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup final had as much action off the field as it had on it. At the post-match press conference, Suryakumar clarified that he had “never seen” a champion side being denied a well-deserved trophy, indirectly referring to Asian Cricket Council’s chairperson Mohsin Naqvi taking the trophy with himself after the Indian team did not come up on stage to interact with him in the wake of his comments on the nation.

“If you tell me about the trophies, my trophies are sitting in the dressing room, all the 14 guys, all the support staff. Those are the real trophies who I have been a big fan of throughout this journey of Asia Cup. Those are the real trophies, the real moments which I am taking back as lovely memories and which will stay forever,” stated Suryakumar, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Indian T20I captain labelled donating his part of the match fees as the ‘right thing to do’ on a personal basis.

“I don’t know if people will call it controversial, but for me, it’s the right thing to do,” he added.

Although Suryakumar struggled to find form with the bat in the tournament, his astute captaincy kept the team on the front foot on almost occasions. His captaincy was crucial for India to end up winning each match of the installment.
