United’s Final Frontier: 3 Islamabad Batters Who Must Fire in Qualifier 2

The PSL 2025 campaign continues to heat up, with only the brave remaining in the fight. The Islamabad United find themselves at the business end of things, and it’s now or never for the franchise in Qualifier 2, a do-or-die contest for the right to play for the trophy. If United want to claim their spot in the final, they’ll need their batting group to step up and deliver, and that includes some key names. So, let’s discuss the three batters who need to shine if Islamabad’s dreams are to stay alive.

1. Sahibzada Farhan – The Tone-Setter

Sahibzada Farhan

Not surprising, is it? Sahibzada Farhan has been United’s most consistent performer this season, accumulating 421 runs in 10 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 158.27. He hasn’t just scored runs, he has taken control and dictated the terms from the first over.

What separates Farhan from the other openers is the mindset he has in the Powerplay phase. While other openers will often ease into their innings and go at a much more cautious pace, Farhan goes full throttle. You can change a game in a hurry from the opening position, and these first six overs can sway the game towards Islamabad. His 42.1 average says enough about the reliability he has had this season, and that is what is most valuable, the aggression.

2. Rassie van der Dussen – The Big-Match Asset

To this point, van der Dussen has yet to perform to his usual standard this season. Just 36 runs in 2 games at a strike rate of 120 is beneath what you would expect from a player of his experience, but it would be foolish to write him off.

Rassie is a player who thrives under pressure. He might not provide the big hitting you would like, but he will structure an innings, and in an intense match situation, a player who can organise the chase and rotate strike is priceless, especially if United lose some early wickets.

3. Salman Agha – The Silent Contributor

Salman Agha

Salman Agha is a player who has flown under the radar in the middle of difficult situations, with 168 runs in 8 matches with a strike rate of 138.84, a notable impact, particularly sometimes when the top order struggled to find their way on the crease.

For Salman, the value trial is that he is a multidimensional batsman. He can rebuild an innings, can put an acceleration into the innings, and can also, if the slot is needed, bowl some overs of spin. The biggest location is when the pressure is at its highest during Qualifiers 2, and he can be calm, which can be of huge value to Islamabad’s results.

Qualifier 2 is just managing the biggest moments, leaning heavily on three batters, and perhaps relying on their chances to depend on them. Farhan needs to ‘go hot’ from the start, Rassie needs to provide the middle experience, and Salman needs to take his time – and manage if or when the innings needs steadying in a key area.

Will they rise to the challenge? One match, one shot, one dream—this is what PSL is all about.
