Top 3 performers from Day 1 of ENG vs IND first Test at Leeds

India is touring England for a five-match test series. The first test match started at the Headingley cricket ground in Leeds. England captain Ben Stokes wanted to test the young Indian team in new conditions, so he opted to bowl. Many experts thought India would struggle to make runs, but the results differed. Indian batters played amazingly and posted a mammoth 359/3 at the end of the day. Check out our top performers from Day 1.

1. Yashaswi Jaiswal – 101 (158)

Yashaswi Jaiswal

Opening the batting under swinging conditions is the hardest thing to do in cricket. But KL Rahul and Jaiswal gave an outstanding opening partnership, which is the highest by any Indian batters in tests in England. The opening batting from both batters was top-notch, and it gave stability to the batters who came after them.

KL Rahul played sensibly and scored 42 runs, while Yashasvi unleashed wrath upon the English bowlers. He consistently hit boundaries and never spared a loose delivery. With 16 fours and 1 six, Jaiswal made a hundred on his debut in England. Jaiswal also became the youngest indian opener to hit a century in England.

2. Shubman Gill – 127 (175)

Gill became the only captain after Virat Kohli to hit a century on his captaincy debut since 2014. The other players who made a century in their debut were Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Virat Kohli. His aggressive celebration after hitting a century describes his grit and determination. He is still unbeaten and has a chance to make it a double or triple by the end of day 2.

3. Rishab Pant – 65 (102)

Rishab Pant

One of the most aggressive innings we saw yesterday came from the unpredictable Rishab Pant. The wicket-keeper batter scored a half-century in a flash, giving no time for the English bowlers. On his very second ball, he came down the ground and hit captain Ben Stokes for a four, making the whole crowd silent.

Even Captain Ben Stokes was impressed by that as he seemed to be laughing from the other end. Pant is also unbeaten, and we can’t wait to see him hitting a few more sixes coming down the ground and end the day with a century.
