Zaheer Khan served Indian cricket for over a decade with his world-class bowling abilities. He remained the spearhead of the Indian bowling attack as long as he donned the Indian jersey. He is mostly remembered for his extraordinary career in test and ODI cricket but he had a brief stint in T20 cricket as well. In this article, we will take a look at his top 3 performances in T20 cricket for the Men in Blue.

Zaheer Khan delivered his best spell in his T20 career at the most opportune time. He brought his best in the 2009 T20 World Cup against Ireland in a group-stage encounter. His triple blow in the powerplay wreaked havoc on the Irish batting order at the start. The momentum given by Zaheer Khan in the powerplay was carried on by the Indian team that kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Zaheer completed his spell with a wicket in the later phase of the first innings and ended up with 4 wickets in his bag.

2. 3/22 vs South Africa, 2012

Another impressive performance from Zaheer Khan in the T20 World Cup. He picked up 3 wickets in a group-stage match against South Africa in the 2012 T20 World Cup. Batting first, the Indian team could manage to post only 152 runs as the target for the Proteas. The Men in Blue needed to come good in the second innings and Zaheer stepped up once again.

The left-arm fast bowler picked his first wicket in the very first over by dismissing Hashim Amla. Zaheer came back in the 18th over to bowl in the death and gave two quick blows to South Africa on consecutive deliveries. That kicked off South Africa’s collapse in the final leg of the run chase. Eventually, India managed to win by 1 run in a thrilling fashion.

3. 2/15 vs South Africa, 2006

This is Zaheer Khan’s third-best bowling figure in T20 cricket and once again it was South Africa on his target. South Africa batted first in the match but could not manage the new ball threat from the experienced left-armer as both the Proteas openers fell to Zaheer Khan. He dismissed Loots Bosman for his first wicket and went to send the South African captain Graeme Smith back into the pavilion as well. India restricted South Africa to a low total of 126 runs in the first innings and bagged the match comfortably in the end.
