The right-handed batter played one of the finest knocks of his career, as he scored 125 runs in 114 balls, which included 15 fours and two sixes, against a quality bowling lineup consisting of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa. South Africa scored 320/5 and won the match by 40 runs.

Batting first in the challenging conditions in Durban, South Africa managed to score 269/8, of which, du Plessis scored 120(112) himself. However, India comfortably won the match by six wickets.
