His excellent performance helped India roll the hosts over for just 163. The Men in Blue chased the target in 34 overs, with seven wickets to spare. Mishra was adjudged Player of the Match for his splendid bowling display.

India faced New Zealand in the fifth ODI at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on October 29, 2016. The home team posted 269/6 in 50 overs after MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. In the second innings, Amit Mishra spun a web around the New Zealand batters, finishing with brilliant figures of 5/18 in six overs, also bowling two maidens. He won the Player of the Match for his scintillating performance.

Amit Mishra made his Test debut against Australia in October 2008 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. This was his return to international cricket after a five-year gap. He followed it up with two more wickets in the fourth innings, helping India win the match by 320 runs.
