In the first match of the T20I series between Australia and Sri Lanka in 2022, Josh Hazlewood picked up 4 wickets to win the match for the Kangaroos. The defending T20 World Cup champions scored 149 runs in the first innings. The target for Sri Lanka was not impossible to chase but Australia’s bowling made it impossible for the opposition to chase that target. A combined effort from Hazlewood and Adam Zampa restricted Sri Lanka to 122 runs in the run chase.

Another 4-fer against Sri Lanka and this time in an even more authoritative win for Australia. Aaron Finch won the toss for Australia and put Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka got off to a good start but Hazlewood pulled things back by giving the first breakthrough. After the first dismissal, Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka built a partnership that was broken by Starc. From there on Hazlewood took charge and scalped 3 wickets in an over which completely derailed the Sri Lankan innings. As a result of the collapse, Sri Lanka could only post 128 runs on the board which was comfortably chased by Australia in the second innings.
