Shane Warne’s Top 3 Performances in Test Cricket

Shane Warne belonged to the rare breed of cricketers who made an impact not only on the field but also off the field. He was arguably the biggest match-winner during his years playing for Australia in international cricket. In this article, we will take a look at Shane Warne’s top three performances in Test cricket.

Shane Warne delivered his best bowling spell in his Test career against England in 1994 at Brisbane, marking the first Test of the series. Warne claimed 8 wickets in the second innings, a performance that proved to be the difference-maker as Australia won the match by a whopping margin of 184 runs. Despite setting a formidable target of 508 runs for England to chase, the young leg-spinner had intentions of demolishing the English batting unit. In a marathon spell lasting 50 overs, he dismissed big names including Graham Gooch, Mike Atherton, Alec Stewart, and Graham Thorpe.

2. 7/23 vs Pakistan, 1995

Brisbane proved to be a happy hunting ground for Shane Warne once again, as this remarkable performance also occurred at the same iconic ground. Batting first, Australia managed to score 463 runs in the first innings, with Steve Waugh playing a pivotal role. When it came to Pakistan’s batting, the visitors were utterly clueless as Shane Warne operated at his absolute best. He picked up 7 wickets, wrapping up Pakistan’s first innings for just 97 runs and enforcing a follow-on. Eventually, Australia won the match by an innings and 126 runs, with Shane Warne emerging as the Player of the Match.
