Delhi Capitals (DC) have completed all their 14 league matches in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) and are currently in the fifth position on the points table with 14 points. Though they have a minimum cut-off point to qualify for the playoffs, their chances are very slim and they will need some miraculous turnaround if they are to appear in the knockout stages.
So, it’s safe to say that the 2020 finalists ended their 2024 campaign in style. In their last match, DC defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 19 runs in front of their home fans. Despite not being able to finish in the top four of the points table, DC have several takeaways and have found some promising stars.
Let’s take a look at 3 best performers for DC in the group stage of IPL 2024:
3. Rishabh Pant
Playing his first competitive game after a horrific car accident, no one would have expected Rishabh Pant to have a great season as a player and as a captain. He led the team from the front with a score of 446 at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40. The keeper-batter also scored three half-centuries with a high score of 88.
Had he not received a one-match ban in the crucial match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DC would have probably qualified for the playoffs. His absence was clearly visible in the leadership and middle-order batting.
2. Tristan Stubbs
Tristan Stubbs had a remarkable season in IPL 2024. Often batting in the lower middle order, the young South African gives the team a fiery finish. In 13 innings, the right-hander has amassed 378 runs at an impressive average of 54.0 and a strike rate of 190.90.
Stubbs is also a gun fielder near the boundary line, pulling off some incredible catches and saving crucial runs with brilliant efforts. His ability to chip in with some wickets in the middle order makes the 23-year-old a valuable asset to the team. He has bowled just two overs this season and two wickets by conceding just 15 runs.
1. Jake Fraser-McGurk
One of the most dangerous opening batters this season. He has been a boon for the Capitals and a nightmare for the opposition. In just 9 innings, Jake Fraser-McGurk has accumulated 330 runs at an average of 36.67 and a whopping strike rate of 234.04. He has also slammed four half-centuries with a high score of 84.
Try to get him out in the first couple of overs, or he will thrash you. He may only spend some six overs at the crease, but it’s enough for the young Australian to take the game away from the opposition. If by any chance DC releases him ahead of the next mega auction, he’ll surely fetch a staggering sum.
