Top 3 best bowling spells in the history of Champions Trophy

The world’s top teams compete in the ICC Champions Trophy, a famous cricket competition where bowlers frequently excel at crucial times. Although batting often garners the most attention, bowlers have repeatedly shown that they are the key to tournament success. Bowlers have been crucial in determining the results of the Champions Trophy, from brief periods to game-winning efforts.

India will go into the tournament with three pacers. All games of India will take place in UAE and they are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. India won the tournament twice in 2002 and 2012. The last time India made it into the final was in  2017. 

1. Shahid Afridi

ICC Champions Trophy 2004 took place in England. During the Pakistan vs Kenya match in Birmingham winning the toss Pakistan invited Kenya to bat first. However, Kenya could score only 94 runs on the scoreboard as Shahid Afridi took five wickets in the game and gave only 11 runs from just six overs. In the end, Pakistan won the match and Shahid Afridi was awarded with the Man of the Match award.  

2. Josh Hazlewood

Again in 2017, England was the host nation for the ICC Champions Trophy. During Australia’s match against New Zealand, Jos Hazlewood created havoc for the batters by picking up six wickets from nine overs. He picked important wickets but New Zealand managed to put in 291 runs as Kane Williamson scored a century. However, the match didn’t have any result as rain washed the game.

3. Mohamed Maharoof

India hosted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2006. West Indies batters were dancing on Sri Lankan pacer Mohamed Maharoof’s bowling. West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first and had no idea what was going to happen to them. Sri Lanka wrapped West Indies on 80 runs as Mohamed Maharoof picked six wickets in that game and was awarded with Man of the Match award for his bowling.
