T20I debut -Top 3 highest individual scores by Australia players

In its long history of success, the Australian cricket team has produced many prominent players who have surpassed the aspirations of perhaps the most devoted fans. In the same vein, the three highest runs by Australian players in their debut match are given here.

1. 98* – Ricky Ponting vs New Zealand at Auckland in 2005

Australia’s former cricketer Ricky Ponting is unquestionably the most successful captain in cricket’s history and sets the record for the greatest individual total on debut in T20 cricket. Notably, on February 17, 2005, in Auckland, it was Australia and New Zealand’s first-ever T20I. Australia struck 214/5, featuring Ponting scoring an unbeaten 98 off 55 with a total of eight fours and five sixes. Later, while chasing, the home team lost the match by 44 runs as they were all dismissed for just 170 runs.

2. 89 – David warner vs South Africa at Melbourne in 2009

Australia’s star opener, David Warner, ranks as one of the best batters in every format. The 36-year-old always places among the top players, whether it’s a white-ball or a red-ball match. Notably, on January 11, 2009, the stylish batter appeared in his first T20I match against South Africa. On top of that, Australia won by 52 runs, owing in a significant way to Warner, who blasted 89 off just 43 balls, while smashing seven fours and six sixes.

3. 41 – Brad Hogg vs South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006

Notably, on February 24, 2006, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg made his T20I debut against South Africa at Johannesburg. On that day, South African captain Smith won the toss and invited visitors to field first. After opting to bat first, the Proteas posted a massive total of 201 runs, while only losing four wickets. Later, while chasing, debutant Hogg smashed 41 runs from just 25 balls and took his team very close to the target while hammering two fours and three sixes with a strike rate of 165. Following that, the star batter got out, and eventually the Ricky Ponting-led Australian side lost that match by just 2 runs over the hosts.
