The T20 World Cup is less than a month away and the squads of all the teams are already out. This is the time we talk about one of the most decorated teams in international cricket which is none other than Australia. The men in yellow have already won two major ICC trophies in a row winning the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup. They will be focusing on making it their third consecutive trophy in this upcoming T20 World Cup as well.

Though the last two tournaments have been great for Australia, the last T20 World Cup is what they will want to forget. Not only did they fail to win the trophy at home but they did not even make the playoffs getting eliminated on net run rate. They will be looking for their 2nd T20 World Cup trophy in this edition. With their squad already announced it is time to look at the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and threats for this team going into the tournament.

Strengths

A balanced squad with a lot of depth and great backup options

What we have to admit is that this is one of the most balanced and great looking squads going into the tournament with the right amount of firepower in all departments whether it is bowlers, batters or all rounders. Other than than that they also have a lot of backup options as well which could come in handy for the team when things start to fail.

Dearth of explosive finishers 

This is what is going to make this one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament. The likes of Tim David, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell have the ability to take the game away from the opponents easily. They will definitely be one of the key players to watch out for when the team is chasing.

Weakness

Flimsy spin attack could cause problems

This is one of the major weaknesses that could be a problem for Australia. The only spinner capable of taking wickets is Adam Zampa who will be under pressure. Other than that the only two spinning options are Ashton Agar who has not played a T20I since 2022 and Maxwell who is merely a part time option.

Maxwell and Green lean patch

We know that Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green are amazing players, but it is important to note that they have not been in great form in T20’s so far. This can be a major problem since they might be one of the key players going into the world cup.

Opportunities

Mitchell Marsh chance to lead his team to glory

Mitchell Marsh has had some injury scares but he has also proven to be a player to watch out for as well. This will also be a time where he can prove his leadership skills and put all the T20 experience he has to the test. This is certainly an opportunity for him to excel as an Australian skipper.

Nathan Ellis to prove himself on the big stage

Nathan Ellis has so far had a great T20 career where he has excelled as a bowler with his variations at the backend of the innings. This will be his first world cup and this will be an opportunity for him to put his skills to the test and announce himself in a major ICC trophy.

Threats

Too many all round options can lead to problems

Though having a number of all round options can be a big plus for the side, but it can also cause some trouble in picking the perfect XI. This will be a real challenge since all the all rounders are talented players who have proven their worth for the team as well. The only problem is you can only choose some from a handful and see if they fit into the playing squad as well.
