Ranking David Hussey's top 3 performances in ODI Cricket

Australian cricket coach and former cricketer David Hussey is celebrating his 47th birthday on July 15. The younger brother of legendary Aussie cricketer Micheal Hussey has played over 170 international matches across three formats. A right-handed batter who can also bowl handy right-arm off breaks, Hussey was seen as more of a T20 player.

The West Australia cricketer made his ODI debut in 2004 and represented the Kangaroos in 69 matches. Batting in the middle order, Hussey has amassed 1796 runs at an average of 32.65 and a strike rate of 1980. He also has one century, 14 half-centuries and 18 wickets in this format. As Hussey celebrates his special day, let’s take a look at his best batting performances in 50-over cricket.

Here are David Hussey’s top 3 performances in ODIs:

3. 79(96) vs NZ, Adelaide, 2009

A phenomenal batting display from Hussey brothers in the fourth ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy helped Australia level the series 2-2 against New Zealand. Batting first, the Black Caps posted 244/8. Australia got off to a decent start but struggled in between and David and Mike ensured they were in control. While David was dismissed on 79 (96), the elder remained unbeaten on 75 to take Australia home by six wickets.

2. 111(83) vs Scotland, Edinburgh, 2009

David’s only century in international cricket came against Scotland in 2009. Australia were invited to bat first and on the back of David’s scintillating hundred (111 off 83), they posted a massive score of 345. In reply, the Scottish side were bundled out for just 156 runs and the visitors registered a mammoth 189-run victory.

1. 61*(30) vs India, Melbourne, 2012, Commonwealth Bank Series

In the first match of Commonwealth Bank Series 2012, Australia scored 216/5 in the first innings after the game was reduced to 32 overs due to rain. Opener Matthew Wade’s 67 and David’s quick-fire 61* off 30 were crucial in the hosts achieving a competitive total. India’s response ended at 151/10 in 29.4 overs and Australia bagged a comfortable 65-run win in Melbourne.
